Heidi Earnshaw Design
Grain & Grid - Heidi Earnshaw Design Custom Website
Heidi Earnshaw is a world-class woodworker specializing in "slowmade" custom furniture for a global clientele. Defined by a blend of Japanese joinery, Scandinavian minimalism, and traditional Shaker craftsmanship, her work required a digital presence that felt as intentional as the pieces she creates. This project is a definitive example of integrated photography and design, where two days of studio documentation were used to build a bespoke, high-fidelity brand world from the ground up.

The Challenge
The primary hurdle was translating the tactile, physical soul of custom woodworking onto a digital screen. Standard templates and stock imagery would have stripped the brand of its authenticity. Heidi’s process is deliberate and quiet; the challenge was to design a site that mirrored that "slow" philosophy without sacrificing the high-performance requirements of a modern professional portfolio.
The Solution
Documentary Studio Photography: I spent two days in Heidi’s Eastern Ontario workshop capturing the "humanity behind the hardware." We focused on the grit of the process—sketching designs, the precision of the tools, and the raw textures of the wood—to provide the site with its visual heartbeat.
Bespoke Site Architecture: Using the custom photography as the structural foundation, I built a minimalist layout that utilized negative space and custom-path typography. The "dotted line" motifs and soft tonal palettes were designed to guide the viewer through Heidi’s story, ensuring the imagery was never just decorative, but fundamental to the user experience.

The Result
The finished product is a high-fidelity portfolio piece that stands as a masterclass in Visual Harmony. By handling both the photography and the web design, we created a seamless transition between the workshop and the website. The result is a credible, high-impact digital destination that positions Heidi Earnshaw not just as a builder, but as an elite artist whose work is worth the wait.
